Wrestlers hit the mats

Hot Springs County High School Bobcat Wrestlers opened their season in Wheatland last Friday.

Eleven eligible wrestlers competed in three duals. There were seven wrestlers who were not eligible due to not having attended enough practices.

“We could definitely see the advantage the other teams had by starting practices on time,” said coach Travis McDermott.

The team lost to Moorcroft 51-30. The dual with Glenrock ended in a 36-36 tie with the decision going to Glenrock on a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors.

“In our final dual with Wheatland we really saw our conditioning come into play and lost 45-24,” said McDermott.

Individual results include:

Dalton Price (120)- Varsity 3-0

Jessen Basse(126)- Varsity 0-3 JV 1-0

Seth Needham(132)- Varsity 1-1, JV 1-0

Wyatt McDermott(138)- Varsity 1-1

Jason Bowman(145)- Varsity 0-2

Kailey Allen(145)-JV 0-3

Roedy Farrell(152) Varsity 3-0, JV 1-0

Mason Reese(170) Varsity 0-3 JV 2-0

Austin Barral(182) Varsity 0-3

Lee Grimm(195) Varsity 0-2

Logan Cole(220)- Varsity 1-0

“Individually our Freshman did a great job and while they made mistakes they were always working for advantage and gave great effort. Dalton Price lead the team with a 3-0 varsity record with 3 pins. He had a great start to his high school career,” said McDermott.

Roedy Farrell also had a 3-0 start and dominated top ranked wrestlers in the state at 152. He pinned both #1 ranked 145lb Dustin Simmons of Glenrock and Keegan Meyer a state placer from Wheatland.

Two time returning state champion Logan Cole only got one match and dominated with a pin.

This week the Bobcats will have their first home dual of the year against Wind River on Thursday at 5 p.m. at the high school.

More wrestlers will be eligible so coach McDermott is hopeful the team will be more competitive.

Friday the team has 3 three duals in Worland against Newcastle, Powell, and Lovell starting at 3 p.m.
