HSCSD extracurricular activities restrictions

This year has certainly been like no other. When it comes to extracurricular activities for Hot Springs County School District #1 (HSCSD#1) this year has had many extra hurdles to jump in order for the students to be able to participate.

Thus far, the extra hurdles have been worth it as they have been successful in completing fall sports and activities while many other states have not had the same opportunities.

Restrictions were placed on fall activities prior to the recent uptick in positive COVID-19 cases in the state of Wyoming. New restrictions are now in place for activities moving forward.

Restrictions have been sent to the district by the Governor’s office, the Wyoming Department of Health as well as the Wyoming High School Activities Association. A couple of the new restrictions have implications on the spectators of district activities.

The first restriction requires that everyone within the venue will wear a face covering for the duration of the event. This includes spectators, workers, coaches, officials and participants.  Exceptions will be given to officials and participants that are involved in strenuous exercise, meaning that during warm-ups and during contests face coverings may be removed by these individuals.

Verbal reminders will be given to wear face coverings but if the verbal reminders are not enough, the activity may be paused until everyone is wearing a face covering.

The second restriction limits gathering sizes to 100. All HSCSD#1 activities will abide by this restriction by allowing up to 100 spectators at events.

HSCSD#1 will issue colored wristbands for each event which will be required for entry. They plan to clear venues when necessary to allow for more spectators, especially immediate family members, to watch their students’ activities.

They ask that those receiving wristbands abide by all district regulations and clear the venue as soon as possible if asked to do so. They ask that you still sit in pods with your family six feet away from other families.

Questions may be directed to HSCSD#1 Activities Director Brandon Deromedi at bderomed@hotsprings1.org.
