TMS wrestling starts strong

The Thermopolis Middle School wrestling team has had a tremendous start to their season, winning 70-percent of their matches in five duals.

“Not only is this a confidence builder for the athletes on the team,” head coach Toby Emery said, “but their hunger to learn has increased as well. The wrestlers are savoring each opportunity to wrestle and having fun doing it!”

During their October 24 Quad with Shoshoni, Glenrock and Wind River, the team had 36 wins and just 11 losses.

Against Glenrock, the team was 15-3, Wind River, 11-5 and Shoshoni, 10-3.

Their next meet was a Dual at home against Worland with Thermopolis coming out on top with 12 wins and eight losses.

Their most recent Dual was with Lander last week and the team once again came out winners with 14 wins and eight losses.

“Each week we strive to perform better,” Emery said, “learning from previous matches and competitions. We have seen excellent growth thus far, and will continue to learn and sharpen our skills as the season continues.

“I am really starting to see the payoff, as a result of the programs set in place here in Thermopolis. I believe there are many things that attribute to the success this team has accomplished.

“First of all, the parent support is strong. Not to mention, the Thermopolis Wrestling Program, from the USA Program, all the way up through the high school wrestling program, works together for continuity in the sport.

“We have amazing coaches and volunteers that aid in the continuous growth of this program. My hat goes off to all of you – thank you!”

The MS wrestlers will be in Greybull this Saturday, taking the mat at 10 a.m. in the high school gym. Next week they travel to Lovell on Saturday with start time at 10 a.m. in the high school gym and then back at home on Saturday, December 5 with matches in both the middle school and high school gyms beginning at 9 a.m.
