The Lady Bobcat Volleyball team fell to Buffalo last Friday in their last home contest, 22-25, 25-20, 15-25 and 18-25.
The girls played really well in the first two games and coach Shannon Hill said, “I really saw a difference in how the girls were playing. They were playing as a team, focused on each point and stopping Buffalo from going on runs.
“I’m not sure what happened in game three, but something switched and we lost our momentum. I see moments of greatness in our girls at times and I can see the improvement and their ability to play with most of these teams, we are just having a hard time putting it together for three total games in a match.”
Elisa Weber led the way with six kills against the Lady Buffs and Reagan Severance knocked out three aces. Bri DeVries had a great night with 16 digs while Grace Whitt managed two blocks.
The girls turned around and played Douglas on the road Saturday.
Hill said they played well the first part of game one and then lost momentum.
“Douglas is a great team, so they took advantage and ran with it,” Hill said. “We started to play better in game three, but Douglas has some heavy hitters and great servers that made it tough to get out of rotations.”
Whitt and Weber each had four kills against Douglas and Weber added 11 digs to her stats while Whitt added another pair of blocks. Kamry Bowman put down a single ace on the day.
The Cats are turning around and playing Douglas today (Thursday) at noon for their regional match. If they beat the Lady Bearcats they will move on to state, otherwise they are done for the season.
The JV and the Freshman teams are finished with their seasons.
The Freshmen lost to both Douglas and Buffalo, but showed great growth in their serve/receive and defensive skills.
“I appreciate the work and dedication from the freshmen and their willingness to put forth one-hundred percent effort at practices,” Hill said.
The JV ended with a solid win over Buffalo and a tough fought loss against Douglas.
“I was proud of the JV for playing as a team and celebrating as a team,” said Hill. “They all showed great growth as athletes and as teammates. I’m looking forward to the talent we have coming up in the freshman and JV teams.”
