The Varsity Lady Cats traveled to Newcastle last Friday to take on the Lady Dogies, losing in four games, 25-22, 20-25, 24-26 and 14-25.
Although the games were all very close, coach Shannon Hill said, "Our girls started out really well, playing as a team and playing in system, but then we lost our momentum in game two and could never really get it back.
"We let Newcastle go on too many big runs. Our girls were hitting the spots they were supposed to, but Newcastle was playing really scrappy and picking up a lot of balls that were given to them."
The girls played great defense, getting 97 digs as a team with Reagan Severance leading the way with 17, followed by Mya Conrad and Brianna DeVries with 15 each.
The defense, however, struggle a little bit, but Grace Whitt led the way with nine kills. Elisa Weber was right behind her with eight kills of her own.
Whitt also led with three blocks and Weber added four aces to her stats.
"We have our last home match on Friday against Buffalo," Hill said, "and then head to Douglas for our last regular season match."
Both the freshmen and JV teams did beat Newcastle.
"They played great volleyball," Hill said, "playing scrappy and consistent."
Kiyah Oliver, Dazlynn Hunt and Joely Mounts played well against the Lady Dogies on the freshman side and Caydence Becher, Mariah Brooks, Saraiya Sosa and Jayci Basse all played really well for JV.
The matches against Buffalo will start at 4 p.m. with the freshmen, followed by JV at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m.
