Cross Country heads to conference meet in Lovell

The Bobcat Cross Country team was in Powell last weekend and coach Stephanie Metz says some of the team had outstanding runs.

Ruth and Rebekah Johnson competed with each other the entire race and Metz said it was great to watch the sisters push each other and strive for their best performance.

“Both girls have room for improvement this weekend in Lovell for the conference meet,” she said.

Hallie Martinez ran another great paced race, but was off her personal record by a few seconds. Jayda Griffin missed a few practices, so she struggled toward the end of the race, something Metz anticipated happening.

“She’ll have a full week of practice in and will be ready to be her best for the conference meet,” Metz added.

On the boys side, Corbin Simeral ran a great race, splitting a 5:28 for his first mile and getting a personal record of 18:37 for the season.

Jesse Rodriguez and Seth Needham raced each other in Powell as well, helping one another compete.

“Seth (Needham) had a great first mile, but needed to pick up his speed for the second part of the race,” Metz said, “whereas Jesse (Rodriguez) may have started out a bit too fast and was exhausted by the end.

“The boys are learning how to compete more efficiently with every race and will do great at conference.”

Isaac Robinson also had a phenomenal race. Metz said, “He’s improving with each meet this season and was able to improve his PR once again at this meet.

“I’m proud of all my runners after this weekend’s performance and look forward to watching them compete in Lovell this weekend.”

The conference meet starts at 3:30 p.m. in Lovell at Foster Gulch Golf Course.
