On November 17, 1920, 12 Thermopolis women gathered to form Chapter K P.E.O.
Today, almost 100 years later we gather to recognize the many accomplishments of Chapter. Over these 100 years, 195 women have participated. Currently there are 19 members in Chapter K.
During the early years the members raised funds from a variety of efforts. Donations ranged from food baskets to the needy, eye glasses for a needy child, one month’s utility bills for a nursery, decorating a hospital room and many more.
In 1935 the first English Award for $5 was given to a graduating girl. This award has continued with several changes. In 1964 it was opened to both boys and girls and in 2000 the award was changed to two books. In 2015 the award was significantly increased and changed to the Chapter K Award to a graduating girl for further education.
Throughout the years Chapter K has supported the P.E.O. International Projects to further education for women.
A number of Thermopolis women have received Educational Loans and Projects for Continuing Education. These programs are designed to assist the post high school woman. A Thermopolis young woman recently received a Star Award for a graduating senior.
In addition to these International projects Chapter K has given smaller gifts to local women seeking career advancement. These can include help items such as fees, tuition, books, gasoline and child care.
During these 100 years there have been many and various fund raisers. Some recent ones of note include: Brooms were first ordered in 1942 and have continued until today, Chapter K Cookbook was successful in 2011 and Mother’s Day Luncheon, sponsored jointly with Chapter AV.
