The Lady Bobcat Volleyball team got their first win Friday night, Senior Night, against Burlington.
“I have seven seniors and they all played great,” said head coach Shannon Hill. “The whole team played as a unit and were moving and flowing as a unit which was nice to see.”
Hill said defense did well staying on their toes and ready for anything that was sent to them that would allow the setter to get to the ball and our hitters to trasition and execute.
“It was a fun match to watch and coach and the girls were having fun,” Hill said.
The JV also got their first win of the season led by their setters Caydence Becher and Bronwyn Dobbins getting the ball to Julie Johnson, Saraiya Sosa and Mariah Brooks to make plays.
Hill added the ladies also had some great defenders on the JV team with Jayci Basse and Dana Crow making great passes and digs.
Final scores against Burlington for the varsity team were 25-19; 25-10 and 25-16.
Reagan Severance lead the way in kills with 13 on the night followed by Grace Whitt with six.
Whitt, Elisa Weber and Brianna DeVries each had three aces as well.
Digs went to DeVries with 11 and Lexi Overfield and Julie Johnson each had a block.
Saturday, the team traveled to Cowley and played Rocky Mountain.
They ended up losing in five games, which was unfortunate coming off Friday’s match, but Hill said she saw some moments of greatness and excellent volleyball, followed by getting stuck in ruts they were unable to pull themselves out of.
“Volleyball is such a mental game and can spiral out of control,” Hill said. “That’s the one area we really need to focus on with our upcoming matches against Buffalo and Powell.
“This team is capable of great things, for instance, in game four, we were down 10-17 and we came back and eventually tied the game 25-25.
“We ended up losing 25-27, but we turned that game around so fast and then lost it on silly errors. The talent is there, we just need to be more consistent.”
Final scores against Rocky Mountain were 25-18; 16-25; 25-19;25-27 and 10-15.
Whitt knocked down 10 kills while Severance had four aces, followed by Weber’s three.
DeVries again took digs to the max with 19 while Overfield and Johnson each had two blocks.
