The Lady Cats traveled to Torrington last Saturday to take on the Lady Trailblazers in volleyball action.
Head coach Shannon Hill said the freshmen won their first match in three games.
“They are starting to play really well as a team and are serving teams well,” Hill said. “They have improved a lot so far.”
Hill said the JV girls lost a tough one in three, “They played well, it just came down to defense and picking up the little things.”
Julie Johnson, Caydence Becher, Jayci Basse and Saraiya Sosa all played really well for the JV.
As for the varsity, Hill said they lost in three games, too.
“Torrington plays really well as a team and has some great outside hitters,” Hill said. “We did not serve/receive well and were putting the ball tight to the net, making it tough for Bri DeVries to get a good set.
“Our communication was lacking as well, causing us to not play well as a team. We have a lot of things to focus on this week as we start conference play with Newcastle on Thursday and Douglas on Saturday.”
Both of those games will be played at home with freshmen tipping off at 4 p.m., JV at 5 p.m. and Varsity at 6 p.m. against Newcastle on Thursday. For Saturday against Douglas, JV will begin at 11 a.m. followed by Varsity at noon.
