Thermopolis Bobcat football started their season on a high note, whipping Tongue River on Friday, September 4, 22-7.
Coach Matt McPhie said the defense scored the first points of the season with a scoop and score by Eli McCumber.
Roedy Farrell had over 180 yards rushing against Tongue River and Logan Cole had over 100 rushing yards.
"It was a great team win against a tough, physical Tongue River team," McPhie said.
This past Friday, the boys fell to Big Piney by a final score of 14-12.
"It was a tough battle all night," McPhie said. "The defense and special teams forced four turnovers, but in the end, the team couldn't punch it into the end zone and get the points when they needed it."
The offense had two rushers over 100 yards with Cole rushing for 135 and Farrell amassing 108.
On the defensive side of the ball the team was led by Eli McCumber and Leam Daniels.
Daniels had an interception and totaled 23 defensive points on the night.
"I thought we battled all night," McPhie said. "We need to clean some things up assignment wise and we will. I'm proud of the young men for hanging in there. They never gave up, even when they trailed late. They still gave themselves a chance to win and we're proud of them for finishing and never giving in."
The Bobcats travel to Kemmerer this week. The game starts at 5 p.m.
