Golfers performing well at tourneys

It’s been a quick start to the Bobcat Golf team’s season with their first practice on August 10, followed by their first tournaments on Aug. 13 and 14.

Coach Brandon Deromedi said there are 12 boys and just one girl out for the team this fall, which is a great turnout.

“We have a goad to add a few girls to the team,” he said, “so reach out to me if you have a golfer in the family.”

The first tournament, the Park County Shootout, was a great way to get back into the swing of things.

Overall, the Bobcat boys placed third. Hardy Johnson came in second, shooting a 74, followed by Will Clark in 10th place, shooting an 86.

Rounding out the day was Hadley Johnson, 18th (95), Seth Weyer, 29th (105) and Kyle Rossing, 32nd (107).

The lone Lady Bobcat, Maddie Stam, showed she still has it, placing third with a score of 95.

Their second tournament, the Cody High School Invitational, had the boys taking third overall again and Hardy Johnson topping the boys in first place with a 74.

Hardy’s brother, Hadley did better the second day, coming in 12th after shooting a 93 for the day. Rossing placed 22nd (105) and Weyer, 24th (107).

Three more players participated in the Cody tournament, Johan Needham, 34th (120), Carson Williams, 42nd (136) and Jean-Luc Willson, 44th (145).

Last week the Cats played in Worland, taking on Worland and Lovell.

The boys again placed third overall with Hardy Johnson (71-68) placing first individually and Stam (94-102) placing third in the girls round. Deromedi said they cut 31 strokes off their play from day one to day two.

In Worland the JV boys, Owen McCumber and Lee Grimm shot a two-day total of 220 and 199 respectively.

Hadley Johnson had a two-day total of 176, followed by Will Clark, 186, Kyle Roessing, 197 and Seth Weyer, 199.

“With COVID we missed out on our spring season,” Deromedi said, “so it has been since last September since our last gathering. It felt really good to get back into sports, even though it looks significantly different than in years past.

“We hope to keep working on improvement so we can reap the reward in mid-September.”

The Cats will be have the Lovell/Thermopolis Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
