Primary election approaches

Wyoming’s Primary Election will soon be upon us, Tuesday, August 18.

Polling places in Hot Springs County will open at 7 a.m. and remain open for in-person voting until 7 p.m.

If you are uncomfortable voting at your designated polling place, you may vote in person in the county clerk’s office at any time until 5 p.m. on Monday, August 17.

Those residing within Precinct 1-1 and 1-2 will vote at the Hot Springs County Fair Building. Voters in Precinct 2-4 votes at the Hot Springs County Museum, and Precinct 3-3 voters will be at the Armory.

If you are unsure what precinct you are supposed to vote in, maps showing a county-wide and town-wide breakdown may be viewed at hscounty.com under the County Clerk tab.

For the General Election on November 3, the precincts will remain the same.

While the deadline for requesting an absentee ballot for the primary has already passed, you may still request one for the general. The deadline to return absentee ballots for the general election in person is November 3 at 7 p.m.

If you are eligible to vote in Wyoming but have not registered yet, you may do so at the county clerk’s office or at your polling place on election day. Identification is not required to vote in Wyoming, however, if you are registering or voting in a federal election for the first time you will need to show a photo ID or other valid form of identification.

That ID can be your driver’s license, a U.S. passport, military ID or even identification from any college in the state. In any case, both your name and address must be on the document.

The Independent Record will run a copy of the primary ballot in next week’s edition or you may pick up a copy at the clerk’s office.
