High prices paid at fair auction

The 2020 Junior Livestock Auction and Blue Ribbon Bake Sale at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds on Friday night was a huge success, with total sales amounting to $180,195.25, up from $123,146 last year.

Along with sheep, swine and beef, there were baked goods that went on the auction block, too.

Twenty-two head of beef came through the ring this year, three more than went up for auction last year.

On average, the price per head was $5,776.25, up from $4,000 last year. This year's total brought in for beef was $127,077.50 compared to a total of $76,010 last year.

Grand Champion Taylor Agar's steer was purchased by the Agar Livestock Transportation at $5 per pound for a total of $6,250.

High price per pound was $6.50 paid by Thermopolis Petro and Tire for Eli Dickey's steer.

Average prices per pound were up from last year, selling at $4.61 per pound, compared to $3.33 last year.

The number of swine sold at auction was down by two from last year at 17, but this year's total sales was $33,701 up from $26,897 last year.

Average price per head this year was $1,982.41 compared to $1,415 last year.

Atlas Roofing purchased the Grand Champion swine of Chloee Owsley's at $6 per pound for a total of $1,662.

Jaxon Flinn and Jayssie Owlsey's swine brought in the high price per pound, selling for $9 per pound to Tumbleweed Propane and Paintbrush Dental.

The average price per pound this year was $7.53 compared to just $5.63 last year.

Sheep sales at the auction stayed fairly steady compared to last year with 21 head being sold for $13,113.75 this year while 22 head were sold last year for a total of $13,463. The average price per head this year came out to $624.46.

Tymber Eckley's Grand Champion sheep was purchased by Wiggins Construction at $5 per pound for a total of $665.

High price per pound went to Ann Allen, Kayden Frederick and Tensie Verhasselt at $6 per pound. The buyers were Paintbrush Dental, S Mill Iron Metal Worx and Vicklund Pharmacy.

The average price per pound was up just slightly this year at $4.98, compared to $4.82 per pound last year.

Four head of goats were auctioned off for a total of $2,283, with an average price of $570.75.

Zoe Adams Grand Champion goat was purchased by Vicklund Pharmacy for $7 per pound, bringing in a total of $518.

Adams goat shared high rice per pound with Alec Martinez who's goat was bought by Kyle and Jocelyn Hatch.

Average price per pound for goats was $6.38.

The total for baked goods sold was $4,020 with the high seller being Luke Dickey, whose basket of goodies sold to Kaila Jones for $780.
