On the Record policy
It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.
Sheriff’s Office
Monday, July 20
4:06 p.m. Christian R. Peek, 23, was arrested for alleged probation revocation.
9:40 p.m. Report of people playing loud music in the parking lot of the former Shopko. The subjects left before the deputy arrived.
10:03 a.m. A citizen assist where subjects were in a verbal dispute over a watch ditch. The deputy spoke to all parties and everything was fine.
Tuesday, July 21
4:22 p.m. A lock was cut off the gate at the 4-H Camp. There are no suspects.
Wednesday, July 22
Time unknown, Ambra O’Brien, 33, was arrested for alleged violation of probation.
10:08 a.m. A citizen assist where a woman received a threatening email demanding money or they will lock the subject’s phone. The subject deleted the email and turned off the device for a period of time.
10:57 a.m. A subject complained about an incorrect billing issue from a medical provider. The subject was advised that this was a civil issue.
7:40 p.m. Report of a potential drunk driver involving a vehicle coming from the Wind River Canyon. Later the deputy located the vehicle, which was parked and empty. The deputy then found the driver in a business and found that he was not intoxicated and informed him of the complaint.
8:33 pm. A potential harassment in East Thermopolis involved a verbal dispute. The deputy advised them to keep their distance.
Saturday, July 25
Time unknown, David Lamont, 45, of Worland was arrested on a warrant.
3:36 p.m. Complaint involving a disorderly customer at a motel who spoke colorful, inappropriate language to the motel’s manager and or employee. The deputy spoke with the customer and he admitted to saying those words. The customer and his family were advised to leave and they did so. The 40-year-old male of Colorado was cited for alleged breach of peace.
Sunday, July 26
4:31 p.m. Report of a subject walking in the middle of the road on Highway 20 at Buffalo Creek. The caller thought the subject might be intoxicated. The deputy arrived and could not locate the subject.
Police Department
Monday, July 20
10:59 a.m. The police department enacted a search warrant based upon a previous arrest and are working with another agency. The matter is still under investigation and pending charges.
Tuesday, July 21
2:02 a.m. An unsecured premise of an abandoned house with a light left on. The officer secured the property and turned off the light.
5:51 a.m. Report of a subject who thought his keys were stolen. They were located in his motel room.
10:41 a.m. A possible theft where a subject thought money was stolen from a vehicle after giving someone a ride. It turned out to be a false report.
10:45 and 10:46 a.m. The police department enacted a search warrant tied to the previous report on Monday, July 20.
3:02 p.m. A 12-year-old male juvenile who allegedly assaulted his family members. The matter is under investigation
5:11 p.m. A 14-year-old male juvenile riding a motorcycle on the streets in town without a license. No citations were issued.
8:56 p.m. Report of a disorderly subject yelling, screaming and throwing objects. The subject was eventually taken by other people than the police to the hospital to be evaluated.
Wednesday, July 22
8:58 p.m. Report of theft of cigarettes and an ashtray that was recovered and returned to its owner.
2:00 p.m. Report of a possible gas drive off theft where the pump did not charge a card. The driver who pumped the gas was located and went back to pay. It was a misunderstanding.
Thursday, July 23
12:20 a.m. An alarm went off at a local business. The officer turned off the alarm and found no issues. The reason for the alarm going off is unknown.
10 p.m. Drug paraphernalia was found and brought into the department. It was destroyed.
Friday, July 24
9:11 a.m. Caber G. Harmon, 38, of Denver, Colo., was arrested for allegedly speeding and possession of marijuana.
9:31 a.m. Report of a possible burglary where a subject tried to pry a lock open but did not make entry of a local business. There are no known suspects.
1:25 p.m. A citizen assist where a subject had moved back to the Basin area and was afraid that there would be harm from another out-of-state subject who might follow them back.
3:16 p.m. NyKomia Whiting, 28, turned herself in as she wanted on a warrant.
3:19 p.m. Report of two stolen chainsaws.
4:33 p.m. Report of trespassing with people walking on the terraces and not on the designated pathways.
5:05 p.m. A suspicious subject was seen pulling up to a house on a motorcycle carrying a dog. It turned out he was ok. His motorcycle had broken down and someone helped him.
6:32 p.m. Extra patrol was provided watching a property while the owner was out of town.
7:30 p.m. Michael O. Beck, 67, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in court.
9:02 p.m. Report of a suspicious female lurking around a business. The officer could not locate the subject, and the business was fine.
11:22 p.m. A 22-year-old male from Boulder, Colo. was cited and released for alleged possession of marijuana.
Saturday, July 25
6:14 a.m. A found wallet was returned to its owner.
11:53 a.m. A citizen assist with different subjects in a dispute over the ownership of a moving dolly. The owner of the dolly could not be determined.
3:06 p.m. Report of a possible drunk driver. The officer located the driver and was found them negative to be intoxicated, but the driver was cited for having no insurance.
6:13 p.m. Report of trespassing with people walking on the terraces and not on the designated pathways. The subjects were told by the officer to leave Hot Springs State Park because of their rude behaviors and attitudes.
9:28 p.m. Report of a bag found in Hot Springs State Park. Its owner is unknown. If there is no claim, it will be logged and then disposed of later.
Sunday, July 26
1:12 p.m. Report of a citizen assist where a landlord was holding a tenant’s property. The tenant was able to get the property back. The police said that a landlord cannot hold a tenant’s property in exchange for money. This issue must be taken to Small Claims Court.
3:47 p.m. Shawn Douglas Goodman, Sr., 45, and Melissa A. Goodman, 40, were both arrested for alleged possession of marijuana and meth.
Circuit Court
Stacy Orton was bound over to district court on a charge of sex offender - fail to change registered information within three days - 1st offense.
Daniel L. Ford, possession of a controlled substance - three oz or less, fees and fines $470.
Velda J. Dews, use of a controlled substance - sch I, II or III, 90 days jail, 89 days suspended, six months supervised probation, fees and fines $255 and driving while under the influence: controlled substance - first offense within 10 years, 90 days jail, 89 days suspended, six months supervised probation, fees and fines, $105.
Danny L. Tolman, possession of a controlled substance - powder or crystal - three grams or less, 90 days jail, 87 days suspended, six months supervised probation, fees and fines $255.
Daniel L. Ford, driving while license is cancelled, suspended, or revoked if not suspended for 31-5-229 or 31-5-233, fees and fines $450.
Verdale John Duran, driving without a valid driver’s license, fees and fines $135.
Birth
Roger Hergert was born on Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Hot Springs Health to
Emmy and Holden Hergert.
He weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 19.5 inches long.
Grandparents are Robert and Dawn Coxbill, Fred and Leanne Correll and Mark and Tracy Hergert.
