Crews under the management of Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management Team 2 successfully contained the Neiber Fire at end of operations on Monday. From its origin on July 14, the blaze spread rapidly through rough and remote sagebrush country and grassland that posed special challenges for firefighters and management.
Firefighters from multiple federal, state and local agencies battled the fire which started near the Washakie/Hot Springs County line.
The crews were worked to continue to hold and improve line in the rough terrain of the Mud Creek drainage.
During the fire additional crews and resources continued to arrive and command was transferred to Wyoming Type 3 Incident Management Team 2.
Aviation, crews and heavy equipment worked in a mixture of short grass and brush to protect resources in the affected area near Murphy Dome Oil Field
The Neiber Fire threatened critical sage grouse habitat, active grazing permits and other improvements.
Firefighting resources included two Type 2 initial attack handcrews, seventeen fire engines with crews, two bulldozers, two water tenders, eight fixed-wing aircraft including a very large air tanker (VLAT), and three helicopters. Due to the effective use of aviation and ground resources, no oil and gas structures were lost.
