Farmers Market back on Saturdays

The Farmers Market is starting soon and is now managed by Douglas Nelson.

Nelson said that he is looking for more vendor participants to add their wares to the market. He added that he thinks with the more global shortages of food that people would be more interested in shopping locally.

Currently, there are five vendors signed up, however, Nelson is optimistic that more will show up closer to the opening time. He said eight to ten vendors are typical for the season.

Vendors must provide their own tables, chairs, booth and change. No pets are allowed, and it is a non-smoking space. The products that can be sold are only those that you made or have grown, not items made by someone else.

Nelson said there will be a lot of fresh vegetables, baked goods, cut flowers and many crafts locally made. The raw agricultural products include fruits, nuts, vegetables, grains and plants. Local growers will have preferential treatment. Meat can be sold if it is processed under inspection in a state or federal plan. Other animal products include raw milk, cheese, eggs, honey, wool can be sold.

Non-agricultural products including arts and crafts that have been made by the vendor, such as pottery, handmade soap, handcrafted furniture and similar items including artwork can also be sold.

For those interested in becoming a vendor, they simply need to contact Nelson or come down to the Farmers Market and sign up at his booth there. It costs five dollars to sign up for the day or twenty-five dollars for the season.

The Farmers Market will be held from July 25 until September 26 on Saturdays from 8-11 a.m. in downtown Thermopolis by Bicentennial Park.
