County Fair kicks off Saturday

As we’re getting closer to the end of July a lot of folks are wondering what will be going on with the Hot Springs County Fair in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The answer is pretty simple -- the show will go on.

“Raising the Steaks” is the theme for this year’s event which starts this Saturday with the PeeWee, 4-H and FFA youth horse show.

All of the events will be happening as they have in the past with just a couple of exceptions.

There will be no pig wrestling this year as there was no way to safely do it with distancing orders in place. Instead, the FFA Alumni will be hosting AG Olympics on Tuesday, July 28.

The other change will be at Family Fun Night. The fair board decided to hold the much anticipated event, however, this year there will be no bouncy houses because of distancing orders.

Attempting to socially distance and keep the bouncy houses sanitized was simply out of the question, so the board thought it best to just not have them.

All of the animal shows, building exhibits, etc., including the chili cook off and the Judge’s Choice bake sale and Junior Livestock Auction, will go on as normal. See ads in this paper for a complete schedule of events.
