Well, the Farmer’s Almanac warned us there would be heat.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we’re going to get a break from the furnace for a while, either. This makes it hard to decide what to do.
Do you stay at home with the air conditioner and binge watch your favorite show on Netflix?
Do you pack up the camper and head to the mountains where it’s cooler?
Sit in a kiddie pool in the backyard with the sprinkler pouring over you?
Float the river or head to the lake?
As long as you stay hydrated and slather on the sunscreen, any of those options sound like a winner.
With the high heat and the winds we’ve been having it’s also a good time to think about the chance of wildfire. The grasses are dried out and all it would take is a spark, a carelessly tossed cigarette, to cause a raging fire that could take out hundreds of acres.
Right now we have three fires burning in Wyoming – the Lost Creek fire in the Shoshone National Forest, the Cabin fire near Wheatland and the Clemons fire in Sybille Canyon west of Wheatland. The three incidents have already burned over 1,100 acres.
Did you know a wildfire can spread at a rate of 6.7 miles per hour and grass fires up to 14 miles per hour?
As we continue to tease those triple-digit temperatures, whatever you do, make sure you stay safe and have a terrific time, because we’ll be back to parkas and snow boots before you know it.
