Audrey Axtell was recently appointed as Wyoming FFA State Treasurer. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the application process was different this year.
The application for state officers is usually due at the end of March and then in-person interviews are in April at the state convention. However, because of the COVID-19 situation, the deadline was pushed back to later. Axtell mailed her application two weeks later than the set deadline because it was pushed back.
There wasn't a set date for in-person interviews until a week or two before the interview actually happened. Axtell went to Casper June 24 for her in-person interviews. Axtell said, "It was all pretty fast actually."
There were seven people on the panel and they decided upon the various positions that day. Friday, June 26 they made the announcements on Facebook Live.
Axtell explained that the applicants apply in general and then the panel assigns the applicants where they want to. Axtell said, "Sometimes the panel will ask what position you seek and why you fit there. But that wasn't part of the questions this year because they only had one day of interviews instead of three days." There were a total of eighteen applicants.
Axtell said, "Usually without COVID there can be upwards of 50 kids applying. So the fact there was eighteen was a little strange. There are nine positions on the team. Half of the kids that went got a spot."
In her role as the treasurer, she is responsible for fundraising, budgeting and getting funds to travel around the state. Axtell and the rest of the team will work on preparing for the State Fair which will be August 11-15 in Douglas.
