Our view - A little good news

With all of the bizarre things going on across the United States right now it might be a good time to slow down and think of some of the good things happening right in our own backyard.

If you’ve looked at our front page this week you’ll see a couple of things worthy of noting.

First, there is the Sanford teacher award that was presented to our own RWE kindergarten teacher Kinley Taylor.

She has been recognized for the amazing work she does with our little ones and even received $10,000 for her efforts. She’ll be in the running against educators from every other state later this year to be named one of the Nation’s top teachers.

Also on the front page you’ll see, in spite of a downturn in funding, the Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department will be presenting a fireworks display on the 4th of July.

We weren’t sure this was even going to be a possibility just a short time ago, but we’re happy there will be a celebration of our country after all.

And then there’s page six that features a couple of items that prove there is a bit of normalcy returning, that things are continuing in spite of the pandemic.

You’ll see the story about the Big Horn Basin Football Camp that will be holding its 31st camp right here in Thermopolis next week.

Sure, we don’t know what exactly the WHSAA is going to determine as far as sports and activities for this coming school year, but the fact boys from all over the state and beyond are going to be running around LeRoy Hayes Field is a great thing.

Finally, on page six you’ll also see where our Bobcat Speech and Debate Team did a terrific job at the National Tournament.

Granted, they had to attend remotely, but that didn’t stop them from competing and doing a bang-up job while they were at it. That gives us hope that competition will go on this school year, even if it does look a little differently than it has in the past.

These are all good things to focus on when it seems like everything in our lives is completely out of control. Look for those good things, no matter how small, and know that this cannot last forever.
