State Parks visitor numbers up

In spite of many services and concessionaires being closed throughout the State Park system in Wyoming during April and May, numbers of visitors were up – way up.

The state boasts 12 State Parks covering over 100,000 beautiful acres featuring just about everything you could want in an outdoor adventure, from hiking trails to fishing, swimming and boating.

The five-year average for number of visitors across the state park system in April and May is 225,000 people.

This year, that number more than doubled to 575,000 people during the same 60-days.

For Hot Springs State Park, however, that wasn’t the case.

In fact, because not only was the State Bath House closed, the remaining pool concessionaires were closed as well, causing the numbers here to be down 92-percent over the five-year average.

With COVID-19 restrictions easing, both pools have re-opened but there is no way to tell whether or not those numbers can be made up during the remainder of the year. The State Bath House remains closed at this time.
