Our summer plans may not be starting out the way we had hoped, but there is still plenty to do right in our own backyard.
This worldwide pandemic doesn’t stop those of us living in Wonderful Wyoming from enjoying the beauty that surrounds us, however.
While you may not be able to go on that Caribbean cruise you had planned, you can still see plenty of exotic fish in the cooling ponds in Hot Springs State Park. Some of them are absolutely huge and kids love feeding them and watching them splash around.
Perhaps hiking is more your idea of a getaway.
New trails in the park and the latest trail up T Hill can provide for some spectacular views of Thermopolis and the surrounding areas. You can also make the trek up Monument Hill or Roundtop, both of which are amazing at sunset.
Dipping your line in the water is like a vacation all on its own, with plenty of spots up and down Wind River Canyon and the Big Horn River to choose from. What could be better than fresh fish for dinner? Be sure your obtain the proper fishing licenses before you head out.
The water may be a little low right now, but you can certainly social distance while floating the river. Its quite relaxing just bobbing along slowly, taking in the beauty of the red hills surrounding you. Way better than any lazy river ride in Las Vegas.
When was the last time you went out to see the petroglyphs?
After watching all those episodes of Ancient Aliens, this summer could be the right time to go take another look at them and see if there really are any drawings of little green men with space helmets on.
And while you’re at it, soak up the feelings that seem to linger there from people’s past, imagine the stories they were trying to tell and think about life on the prairie in Wyoming.
It may not be exactly what you had in mind for your summer, but with a little imagination you can have a wonderful vacation right here in Hot Springs County.
