What has become a Memorial Day tradition in Thermopolis, 3-on-3 basketball, has been canceled for now amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Brandon Deromedi it was a tough decision as it not only serves as a fundraiser for the Thermopolis High School athletic programs, but it helps generate revenue and excitement for the community.
“We felt that we needed to do our part to avoid close, personal contact of fans, players, coaches, workers and many others involved,” he said.
They are hopeful if restrictions are lifted in May or June that they can offer some sort of event that can bring the community together for fun and generate a little money for the athletic programs.
Advertisement for that and registration for events will be made public shortly after restrictions for social distancing are lifted.
The plan is to have 3-on-3 return on Memorial Day weekend of 2021.
“It is such a fun event that is enjoyed by many and we look forward to hosting again in the future,” Deromedi said. “We are sorry for the inconvenience that we may have cause the players, fans, coaches, families and the community of Thermopolis, but we felt that everyone’s safety is of the utmost importance.”
Deromedi added all deposits and registration fees will be returned in full.
