“Visions of Heritage” is the theme for this month’s Second Friday ArtStroll and Still Strolling Saturday in Downtown Thermopolis on March 13 and 14. The Stroll runs from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, and during regular business hours on Saturday.
Members of the community will display or demonstrate items and activities that reflect their heritages. ArtStrollers will see some of the varied foundations of our community. Anyone wishing to participate with a display, demonstration, or activity, can contact ArtStroll organizers Lara Shook (307-630-9058) or Marcia Nelson (307-921-8496).
Participants already signed up include Rita Bishop, who will bring saris from Malaysia to be modeled Friday evening.
Two Worland artists are returning for the weekend, too. Cal Fulfer will be back, with jewelry created using repurposed items and mixed media. Pam Greek is another returning artist. She will bring a display of feather jewelry.
Lara Shook, from Thermopolis, will be serving food from her heritage -- Swedish Pancakes, on Friday evening, as well.
The HSCMH Auxiliary Bake Sale will be happening downtown on Friday evening. Stroll down the street and peek at the windows to see a beautiful display of Bressane Dolls from France, owned by Jocelyn Arey. These dolls are hand-painted and wear hand-sewn costumes. They come from Bourg-en-Bresse, France.
Harold Hutson and friends will be jamming. ArtStrollers will find heritage quilts on display. One quilt on display will be a Southwestern-styled quilt created by Kathy Hammond. Hammond will have another piece of her heritage on display, with some history behind it, a Geiger counter.
Keep an eye open any time this month to see Dan Wychram’s photography on display downtown.
ArtStrollers will see more examples of our community’s heritage in other downtown business windows.
ArtStrollers are encouraged to pick up a map at any Stroll business to find the location of artists. Return the map to the host business for a chance at special prizes. The Second Friday ArtStroll/Still Strolling Saturday is organized by the Smoking Waters Art Guild with additional support from The Greater Learning Foundation, Main Street Thermopolis, Hot Springs Travel & Tourism and local businesses and individuals.
