At the Thermopolis Town Council meeting, Town Attorney Mike Messenger presented the amendment for Town Ordinance No. 822 for a second reading. This amendment updates the definition of “Game Bird” and “Migratory Game Bird”. Essentially, it makes it illegal to feed turkeys in the town. There were nuisance reports of residents feeding wild turkeys in the neighborhoods with corn feed. The turkeys were collecting in groups, not leaving the area and were defecating on cars and property, causing damage in multiple places. The amendment was passed for its second reading.
Council member Dusty Lewis reported on the Hot City Outdoor Alliance where they put in a grant to the Musser Foundation to do a trail study in the area. It is in conjunction with Wyoming Pathways and is a 50/50 match grant for $5000. Lewis said that the end result of this grant is a key to gaining future, bigger grants that will enable them to get “shovels in the dirt and for things to happen”. The study should be done this spring. They will be considering bids for the trails in the near future and also work on fundraising. Lewis said, “this may be the first step for something bigger to come.”
