The largest home hospice care organization in Billings since 2017, Stillwater Hospice, is now working in Thermopolis and the Big Horn Basin.
Director Chris Graham said the company’s philosophy is to keep people at home, or wherever they live, until the end of life.
“We are here to relieve the burden of the caretakers,” Graham said. “People don’t always understand what hospice is. We don’t just come in the last couple of weeks. We come in six months or even a year before to make the process beautiful rather than a struggle.”
A Medicare certified hospice, Stillwater provides full Medicare coverage for free, including nursing care, home health aids, chaplains, social workers, medical directors and they bring in all of their own equipment as well.
Medications are taken care of and delivered directly to the home.
Stillwater Hospice has partnerships with nursing homes and hospitals, including those here in Thermopolis, along with Community Home Health, the Pioneer Home and Thermopolis Hospice.
Graham said they will be working on certifications for our hospice volunteers in order to ensure the best end of life care for everyone in the community.
“Along with all the medical care, our job is to help them accept the journey,” Graham said. “We always want it to be comfortable for everyone, including family and friends.”
Graham said Stillwater looks at Thermopolis as the tip of the spear in hospice in Wyoming.
“You are a light in the community,” he said. “Everyone is forward thinking and we’re excited to be here.”
