The Hot Springs County 4-H Junior Livestock Judging team was named the champion team at the 2020 Black Hills Stock Show.
Teams gathered from Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota and Nebraska to participate in the Black Hills Stock Show Youth Day Livestock Judging Contest. Youth judged six classes of livestock, answered questions on two classes and gave one set of oral reasons on their placings for a class of Yearling Balancer Bulls.
Team member Taylor Agar dropped 18 points in placings on the contest and was the Overall High Individual. She was followed by a second place overall finish by her sister Rylee Agar who also dropped 18 points in placings.
Team members Tymber Eckley was 17th overall in the Livestock Judging Contest and Maile Mae McCumber was the 18th High Individual in the contest. The team of Taylor Agar, Rylee Agar, Tymber Eckley and Maile Mae McCumber outscored their nearest competitors by 75 points and had a very convincing win.
Hayden Overfield participated in the individual part of the Livestock Judging Contest and had a very respectable day as well as he garnered a 15th place finish in the Livestock Judging Contest.
"This group of young 4-H members really see livestock well," said leader Joey Johnson. "They also posted a commanding performance at the NILE Stock Show and Rodeo this past October where they won the team competition by a 75 point margin as well. This spring we will start our 307 Judging Contest Series and I look for this team to be highly competitive throughout the spring and summer."
Thermopolis FFA ranked sixth out of 30 teams at the Black Hills show as well.
Ally Taylor was 11th overall, followed by Hadley Johnson in 14th, who was recognized for his gilt reasons.
