Jayci Mead, owner of JC's Dream Team Bucking Bulls, had her bull, JC's Gangster, in New York City at Madison Square Garden for Professional Bull Riding (PBR) on Jan 3-5.
Friday in round 1 Fabiano Viera from Brazil drew Gangster and rode him for 85.5 points.
JC's Gangster was asked back for Round 3 on Sunday. Jess Lockwood, the 2019 PBR World Champion drew him and rode him for 86.75.
LJ Jenkins hauls Jayci's bulls and had eight other bulls there too. LJ, a retired PBR bull rider, is now a stock contractor and bull trainer. LJ helped find JC's Gangster and they bought him.
Jayci owns nine bulls and has three ready for competition, all trained by LJ.
Jayci became very interested in becoming a stock contractor while in high school. She and her father, Luke, started attending PBR events in Billings. They went around the back to look at the bulls and she fell in love with it.
She wanted to raise one of the bulls. They bought a two-year-old futurity bull and got a dummy rider to get started. Then she moved up to rider bulls.
Jayci said that the most exciting thing is to watch her bulls on television. Her father Luke said that it was a huge honor for the Madison Square Garden PBR to pick JC's Gangster for the competition on the first day, but to be picked again for day three for television broadcast was even more exciting.
Describing why he was picked, Luke said, "He bucks pretty good, looks good, people can ride him. If the rider has a bad day, he'll be bucked off."
Jayci said she was, "Really excited." She watches PBR events from home three days a week and also travels to Billings to attend their events.
They also explained that Jayci loves to interact with all the players. "She knows a lot of bull riders and trainers and they know her too."
Jayci's next step and number one goal is to get more outs on JC's Gangster and to become qualified and invited for the national championship PBR in Vegas.
