Jeralyn Joy “Jerry” Brown, 89, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born May 29, 1930, in Casper, Wyo., she was the youngest of eight children of Elijah and Rose (Borchers) Dodge. The family lived in Alcova, and moved to Thermopolis where her parents owned and ran the Wigwam Bakery.
While working at the First National Bank, Jerry always volunteered to take the bank mail to the Post Office where she’d caught the eye of a young postal employee, Bob Brown. The two were married September 18, 1949, and recently celebrated their 70th anniversary.
Like most of her siblings, Jerry worked at the Wigwam Bakery. She also worked for Dr. Nels Vicklund and at the Hot Springs County Treasurer’s office. Her great joy was to own and operate Country Charm in downtown Thermopolis.
Jerry was dedicated to her children and doted on her granddaughter. She taught them hard work, kindness, and to always do your best. She was a talented crafter and enjoyed playing Bridge and collecting Santas, chickens and rocks. She rarely left anywhere without a hug, and really liked being “favorite Aunt Jerry.” She was an avid reader and NBA fan. Jerry loved God, America and our flag. She was a longtime member of Community Federated Church, Order of Eastern Star and P.E.O., where she served as state president.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter, Bobbi (John) Barrasso of Casper, Wyo .; Mike (John Bolt) Brown of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Hadley Bryans of Jackson Hole, Wyo .; siblings, Betty Jean Gwynn of Buena Vista, Colo., and John (Ellen) Dodge of Thermopolis; brother-in-law Jim Brown of Renton, Wash .; and nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was predeceased by her parents; siblings, Carmelita Snyder, E.L. “Sonny” Dodge, Bill Dodge, Yvonne Anderson, Patricia Spatz, and their spouses; sister-in-law, Marles Dodge and brother-in-law. Norton Gwynn.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at Community Federated Church with Pastors Ross Kershaw and Jami Anderson officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate gifts to the PEO Local Continuing Education Scholarship, Chapter K PEO Treasurer, 745 Amoretti, Thermopolis, WY 82443; Community Federated Church 244 North 6th, Thermopolis; or an animal rescue of choice.
