Gilding demonstration Saturday

Come to Hot Springs County Library located at 344 Arapahoe Street in Thermopolis this Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. to participate in an art demonstration about gilding and gold leaf techniques.

Long-time Kirby resident, Barrie Lynn Bryant, will present these techniques and everyone attending should have the opportunity to handle real gold and experience how this artistic process works. This free and open to the public session will be especially interesting to artists, woodworkers, photographers, book binders and surely anyone interested in art.

Bryant began gilding in 1999 when he discovered how gold leaf has been used to beautify things for more than four thousand years. He learned the process on his own by the hardest as he wanted to use gold leaf on picture frames that he makes for his wife’s drawings and paintings. During 2016, Bryant developed a method for printing artwork and photographs directly onto hand-gilded paper, another facet of his gilding that he will show during the Saturday session. This process is what got Bryant hired to teach in Las Vegas to begin with in January, 2017.

Local residents may already know Bryant and his wife, artist AB Word, since they moved to Kirby in 1994 where they established their fine art business, Merglenn Studios. The couple has participated in numerous local art events and has presented their art in Bobcat art classes. They are always available to talk about art and much more besides.
