On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Sheriff’s Office

Monday, Dec 30

10:42 a.m. Report of someone parked around the Dinosaur Center. The subject was advised it was private property and to move on.

3:42 p.m. Gun was located on Black Mountain Road. It was claimed and returned to its owner.

Tuesday, Dec 31

12:45 p.m. Report of a drunk driver called in at mile marker 27 on Highway 20 South located near the canyon. Vehicle was located and the driver advised of the complaint and was found to not be intoxicated. Driver was cited for not having proof of insurance. 

9:35 p.m. A welfare check was requested and the subject was located near the airport. Rachel Turner was arrested for alleged driving under the influence.

Wednesday, Jan 1

5:42 a.m. Report of a person lying in the middle of the street on the 100 block of East Warren. The subject was located at the 100 block of Broadway. Salahuddin Najar was arrested for alleged intoxication on a roadway and cited for use of a controlled substance, marijuana.  

8:00 p.m Complaint of noise near the old Shopko building 140 Highway 20 South.

Saturday, Jan 4

9:56 p.m. Police responded to an accidental hit on Life Alert.

Sunday, Jan 5

12:15 a.m. Subjects reported walking on side of the road at Lane 12 Highway 20 South of town. Deputy located subjects following from a beer party and were arguing. One subject left and the other followed. They were given a ride back and subjects agreed to work it out. There was no physical harm.

Monday, Dec 30

12:41 a.m. Report of harmful threats made to another individual. No arrests made.

10:21 a.m. Hit and run. Vehicle was backed into, there was no ID of suspects.

10:50 a.m. Lost set of keys found. They were returned to their owner.

3:21 p.m. Keith Allen Corey, 50, was arrested for extradition for an out-of-state warrant.

4:55 p.m. Report made to police of a lost package supposed to be shipped to the resident.

10:48 p.m. Report of a couple hanging around a closed business late at night. Officer identified them and sent them on their way. 

Tuesday, Dec 31

5:47 p.m. Officer assisted an elderly female to transport to the hospital.

9 a.m. Kelly Rowland was arrested on an out of state warrant. He was released because the other state would not extradite him.

Wednesday, Jan 1

11:57 a.m. Report of inappropriate chalk drawings at Park Street Bridge.

Thursday, Jan 2  

9:24 a.m. Police responded to assist an elderly female to transport to the hospital. 

11:39 a.m. Local establishment attempted to pay a bill and discovered it needed to go to a local contractor.  

2:39 p.m. Individual was angry and made threats to another but did not follow through.

Friday, Jan 3

8:52 a.m. Melissa Eileen Balstead, 52, turned herself in on a warrant arrest.  

6:50 p.m. Officer assisted an elderly individual for transport from Pioneer Home to hospital. 

8:12 p.m. Report of a drunk driver called in. Officer investigated and arrested Dusty Allen Sill for alleged driving under the influence.

Saturday, Jan 4

7:57 a.m. Report of gunshots heard down by the river.

3:20 p.m. Police assisted elderly female with transport to the hospital.  

Monday, Jan 6

9:39 a.m. Report of individual firing gunshots in own house and destroyed own property. No injuries. No citations were given. 

5:18 p.m. Jeffrey Lynn Baker, 55, was arrested for alleged driving under the influence and driving while under suspension.
