Lady Cats hit the courts

The Thermopolis Lady Bobcats varsity girls had an excellent start to their season coming out of their first tournament with three wins.

They first took on Kaycee on Friday, topping them with a steady 46-27.

“The team played good defense while recording 28 steals,” head coach Matt McPhie said.

Kaylee DeVries snatched six steals with Ashley McPhie and Mariah Brooks right behind her with five steals each.

Sesi Jensen led the way on the boards, pulling in eight rebounds in the game.

Scoring wise, the Lady Cats were led by McPhie with 12, followed closely by McKenna Bomangen with 11 and Mariah Brooks chipped in eight.

Saturday morning saw the girls toppling Lusk, 64-45.

Kaylee DeVries had a career high 21 points and added eight rebounds and five steals to her top stats. McPhie added 18 points on seven of 12 shooting and Jensen again did a great job of rebounding, pulling in eight boards.

Jensen also added five steals to her morning to go along with eight points. Sadie Burr also added eight points and five rebounds.

“Lusk is a good basketball team,” Mc Phie said, “and our girls played solid basketball to come out on top.”

For the final game of the weekend, the girls beat Wright by a final of 51-11.

McPhie again led the way in scoring with 14 points while Bomengen had 12 points to go along with five steals and four rebounds. Jensen led the rebounding charge again, pulling down five which included two offensive.

The JV girls had their first competitions of the year, coming away with a 2-0 start against Lusk and Greybull.

In their first match up the JV team took on Lusk, coming out on top 49-21.

Elisa Webber was the big scorer for the game with 10 points. Following right behind were Julie Johnson, Bronwyn Dobbins, Kamry Bowman and Ruth Johnson who all dropped in seven points each.

Next on the list was Greybull with the Lady Cats winning substantially, 49-9.

Kamry Bowman led the way this game with 15 points and Sadie Burr and Dayna Crow both tipped in eight points each.

Coach Katie Despain said, “Overall, the Lady Bobcats had an awesome weekend! I was super impressed with the way the JV ran their offense and never gave up on the court.

“I look forward to being able to coach and watch more games this year.”

The Lady Cats will be hosting Burlington at home this Saturday with the JV girls playing at noon and varsity at 1:30 p.m.
