Lady Cats hit the courts

The Lady Bobcat basketball team had their first practice on Monday morning and head coach Matt McPhie is looking forward to a great season with a lot of returning talent.

“We’ve got a great group of young ladies out playing this season,” McPhie said. “The team returns eight letter winners from last season including six seniors.”

The seniors include Tahja Hunt, Sesi Jensen, McKenna Bomengen, Aspen Jensen, Kaylee Devries and Ashley McPhie. The team returns many of its top performers from last season as well.

The team’s three leading scorers return in McKenna Bomengen, Ashley McPhie, and Sesi Jensen.  Bomengen averaged 12 points per game, McPhie nine, and Jensen six.

“Sesi Jensen lead the team in rebounding last season with an average of seven,” McPhie said. “She will look to lead the team in this category again and will receive rebounding help from many of the girls.

“We are expecting Kaylee Devries to have a great season. Kaylee has worked extremely hard this year and during the off-season. She plays tremendous defense and has infectious energy she brings to the floor every day- regardless of whether it’s a practice or game.

“The expectations for this team are and should be high. With much talent returning from a year ago, we believe we can contend with anybody in the state.

“We’ve got a good group of girls who are willing to work hard. They don’t make excuses. They understand they will get out what they put in - and we as a staff are eager to see what great things this team is capable of.”
