TMS girls basketball

The middle school’s girls basketball teams are spending a lot of time on the court and improving with every game they play.

Last week, in their games against long-time rivals, Worland, the seventh grade A team lost, however, the B team came out with another win. Unfortunately, both eighth grade A and B teams didn’t fair well, losing both games.

High scorers against the young Lady Warriors were Jayssie Owsley for the 7A team and Kamryn Farrell for the 7B team. On the eighth grade side was Dazlyn Hunt for 8A and Kaitlin Barral for 8B.

On Friday the girls took on Lovell, both at home and away with both eighth grade teams dropping their games.

The 8A team lost 21-37 with 8B losing 11-24.

“We had a much better showing offensively,” said coach Ashley Cleare. “The girls weren’t rushing their shots and they were beginning to run their plays more consistently to get those open shots.”

The seventh grade teams lost to Lovell as well with 7A falling 39-1. The score was not available for the 7B team.

One of the things the Bobcat coaches always strive for, other than a win, is good sportsmanship from their teams. Jayssie Owsley, a player on the 7A team was awarded Good Sportsman Recognition at the Lovell game.

Coach Cleare said, as always, both teams fought hard and showed a lot of hustle.

Dazlyn Hunt was the high scorer for the 8A team with seven points while Kiyah Oliver dropped in eight for the 8B team. Along with good sportsmanship, Owsley also scored the single point for the 7A team.

The first quads of the season were played on Saturday with the eighth grade teams at home against Powell and Cody.

“The girls didn’t come out as strong against these teams like they had against Lovell,” Cleare said. “It took us a little bit to get going, and once we did there were definite bright spots in offense and defense.”

The girls were beginning to see the court and run the plays to get open shots and Cleare said defensively, the girls played aggressive and got some good steals.

The 8A team lost to Powell, 24-25, 8B lost to Powell, 9-21, 8A lost to Cody, 19-50 and 8B lost to Cody, 5-36.

Kaitlin Barral was the high scorer for the 8A team against Powell, popping in 12 points while Kiyah Oliver scored four points, making her the 8B high scorer.

Against Cody, Barral again was the high scorer with 10 points and Kadence Bowman was on top for 8B, making three points for the team.

The seventh graders traveled to Worland to play Powell and Cody with 7A losing to Powell, 10-32, while the 7B team came out with a win against the young Lady Panthers, 31-24.

Against Cody, 7A lost 9-41 while the 7B team came out with a win, 22-20, in a hard fought game.

Aspen Brooks and Jayssie Owsley were tied for 7A high scorer against Powell with three points each. Owsley was also the high scorer for 7B with 16 points.

Owsley was also the high scorer against Cody on 7A with five points while Brooks added another 10 points to her stats for 7B.
