The Friends of the Library had quite a successful year for 2019 with all of their volunteers donating countless hours to give a helping hand to Hot Springs County Library.
During their annual meeting they elected their new slate of officers for 2020, with Cindy Toth as president, Suzanne Samelson, vice president, Kathy Taylor is treasurer, Becky Hutson, secretary, and Mary Alldredge, Roberta Elwell and Joan Stetler as directors-at-large.
A $4,500 donation from the Owl Creek Foundation along with another donation from Tegeler and Associates and many individuals made a big difference in things the group could do for the library this year.
Several fundraisers throughout the year helped as well, including February’s Chocolate Lovers event, spring and fall book and bake sales and the Book Buyback program. Samelson said the fall book and bake sale was especially profitable for the group.
Among the things the group was able to do this year was donate a book to the New Year’s Baby, give $25 in Chamber Bucks along with a live plant to each library employee as an appreciation gift, give the library $6,200 for the purchase of a fax machine as well a a couch and chairs.
Other various children’s programs, Dinner and a Movie, a play kitchen for the Story Time room and musical performers as well as hosting a poetry and song writing contest were also possible thanks to funding from the group.
Membership in the Friends of the Library is open to anyone. An individual membership is just $10 or a family membership for $15. Business memberships are also available for $25.
