Counterfeit bills being used

Businesses that accept $100 bills from patrons are advised to make sure they’re real, as reports have come in this past week of counterfeit $100’s being passed.

The bills have also shown up in Worland and Red Lodge Montana, Police Chief Julie Mathews said.

Mathews advises anyone who receives a $100 bill to check it with special pens that indicate right away if the money is fake or not. Other methods of determining if a bill is fake include holding it up to a light to determine if there is a security code and checking the feel of the paper. Mathews also noted counterfeit bills often have one edge that is different from another, where the edges of real bills are even.
