•Oct. 17: In 1945, an 11-year-old girl shot a 700-pound bear with a .22-caliber rifle near Worland.

•Oct. 19: In 1944, three men were killed in a bomber crash near Casper Army Air Base.

•Oct. 21: In 1872, construction of the Territorial Prison in Laramie was completed.

•Oct. 22: In 1964, Richard Nixon visited Wyoming to campaign for presidential candidate Barry Goldwater.

•Oct. 23: In 1884, an English nobleman died in a fall while hunting in Tensleep Canyon.
