Runners do well at Powell

Cross country high school and middle school teams competed at the Powell Invite last Friday. The high school girls are doing well in getting their mile splits down, coach Stephanie Metz said, noting Hallie Martinez certainly came out of the woodwork.

Metz further added Cord Simeral is coming close to breaking that 20-minute mark, and his brother Corbin, who recently broke that mark, came in at under 19 minutes.

As for the middle school team, Powell marked their championship meet and Metz said everyone came and did well. She excited for the future, and to see the eighth grade students moving up, getting stronger and joining the high school teams next year. There are also plenty of strong sixth and seventh grade students who will keep next year’s middle school team going.

This week will see the high school team at home again, hosting the 5 Rivers Conference Meet at the golf course. The boys will begin running at 3 p.m., with girls following at 3:45 p.m.
