Know your Constitution

In the current political climate in the United States its sometimes hard to discern what is real and what isn’t.

I don’t just mean the difference between real news and fake news, but all of the items tossed at us through social media that insist they are the “right” answer to everything.

Most of us were required to take a government class in high school to prepare us for the scary world outside those four walls, but how many of us really remember what documents like the Constitution actually say?

Chances are, you haven’t actually looked at a copy of the Constitution since leaving that class so many years ago and perhaps your recollection may be a bit fuzzy on the details.

As the drama unfolds around the impeachment inquiry into President Trump, now would be a good idea to dust that document off and re-read it. There is definitely a procedure for impeachment and it is not an easy one.

Our founding fathers ensured the steps could not be made haphazardly and that they had to be followed to the letter, otherwise the process would be misused.

No matter which side of the aisle you sit it is imperative you know what the rules are, otherwise you can easily be drawn into the nonsense being tossed about, the lies, the finger pointing and the unending blame game that goes on between both parties.

Before you purchase a car you do your research. You want to know how it is on gas mileage, you check with your friends who have similar makes or models of the car, you pour over everything you want to know before putting that money down on the dealer’s desk.

We should look at this time in our lives, politically, in the same way. Its time to do that research, read your Constitution and discuss things with your family and friends.

It is up to all of us to know what is really happening and make sincere, educated choices.
