On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sex offender registry

Wyoming State Statute 7-19-303 (c) (ii) (iii) requires that residential neighbors within seven hundred fifty (750) feet of a registered sex offender’s residence be notified. If you are a property owner in this area it is your responsibility to notify any renter or lessee of your property that there is a sex offender residing in the neighborhood.

11:48 a.m. Report of a found Social Security card.

Wednesday, Sept. 18

12:38 p.m. Complaint of ongoing internet fraud.

Thursday, Sept. 19

10:39 a.m. A warrant was served on a subject already in detention.

Friday, Sept. 20

4:15 p.m. Initial report of theft, though the incident was found to be in Cowley and out of our jurisdiction.

6:28 p.m. Accident reported, though there were no injuries.

Saturday, Sept. 21

12:53 p.m. REDDI report on a truck that was not maintaining lanes. The driver was contacted and found to not be intoxicated, but he was warned about his driving.

8:09 p.m. Report of a vehicle vs. deer accident.

Police department

Tuesday, Sept. 17

1:48 p.m. Initial report was of a family fight, though it turned out to be just a couple horsing around.

3:03 p.m. Report of a couple bringing alcohol into a business. The two were not to the point where they were publicly intoxicated.

4:17 p.m. Report of kids at a school who were not picked up. They were picked up later by family.

5:17 p.m. Complaint of threatening text messages. Those involved agreed to leave each other alone.

9:20 p.m. Officer responded to a mother/daughter dispute.

Wednesday, Sept. 18

11:37 a.m. Some big tie down straps were located.

4:57 p.m. A female subject was cited for passing a stopped school bus.

5:19 p.m. A vehicle was pulled over for speeding. However, this call was not completed as the officer had to respond to another emergency.

7:46 p..m. Traffic complaint, though the suspect vehicle could not be located.

Thursday, Sept. 19

2:13 p.m. Following a traffic complaint, contact was made with the driver, who said he was having vehicle troubles. He was told to get his vehicle fixed.

2:36 p.m. Officer assisted a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper with the arrest of Christian DiGaetano.

8:11 p.m. Officer assisted three male subjects in fixing a tire and getting their vehicle back on the road.

8:36 p.m. After a noise complaint, a couple was told to turn down their music and television, to which they complied.

Friday, Sept. 20

10:42 a.m. Officers provided assistance with the Homecoming parade.

9:48 p.m. Officer contacted the driver of a vehicle being driven poorly. The vehicle was searched and there was no cause for arrest, but the driver was spoken to.

Saturday, Sept. 21

9:17 a.m. Report of a vehicle speeding through the canyon. An officer responded but was unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

2:12 p.m. Scott D. Jackson was arrested for alleged driving under the influence and cited for no interlock device.

6:17 p.m. Melissa E. Balstad was arrested for alleged driving under the influence and cited for no insurance, no registration and interference with a police officer.

Sunday, Sept. 22

1:06 p.m. A found cell phone was returned to its owner.

9:50 p.m. Christopher A. Taylor was arrested for alleged driving under the influence.

Monday, Sept. 23

12:53 a.m. Report of a found backpack.

11:26 a.m. Complaint of a scam involving online purchases.

Dionysus Crees was born Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Amanda Eveland and Zenas Crees

He weighed 7 pounds,13 ounces and was 18.5 inches long.

Ronald D. Petty was found guilty of property destruction under $1,000. Fees and fines are $205

Allen S. Chamberlain was found guilty of driving under the influence of a controlled substance an improper lane use, and was sentenced to seven days in jail and two years supervised probation. Fees and fines are $425.

Danny J. Van Vleet was found guilty of driving under the influence, speeding and driving under suspension, and was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 179 days suspension and six months supervised probation. Fees and fines are $580.

Brad R. Gager was found guilty of driving under the influence and was sentenced to one year probation. Fees and fines are $255.

Nykomia S. Whiting was found guilty of second-offense driving under suspension and was sentenced to seven days in jail. Fees and fines are $255.
