Homecoming football games have been a decades long tradition for Hot Springs County High School, and this Friday night marks another as the Cats take on Moorcroft at 6 p.m.
It’s interesting to look back on that history.
For instance, in 1948 they sold Season Tickets for the five home games. You could pick one up for $3 for adults and $2 for students. If that was a bit out of reach, you could attend a home game for 75 cents for adults, students paid just 50 cents and children could get in for a quarter.
The Bobcats got a spanking new field in 1953.
The Cats came into the 1965 Homecoming game undefeated. Homecoming Queen that year was Marci Hunt, who was crowned at half-time by the co-captains, Dennis Johnson and John Thomas.
They even had fireworks during half-time that year.
The Bobcats had a close one in 1972’s Homecoming game. Doug Bender made the final touchdown of the night, just a single yard, with 13 seconds left on the clock, beating the Lovell Bulldogs, 19-14.
Beating the Bulldogs was something of a tradition when the Cats came out on top again during 1981’s Homecoming, 14-9.
The defensive coach that year was LeRoy Hayes, a long-time Bobcat player and coach whom the field is now named for.
We will once again don the purple and gold, fill the stands and cheer our Bobcats on as they take the field Friday night.
Go! Fight! Win!
