TMS junior Bobcats see first loss

Coach Shane Corpening said last Saturday’s game was a tough one for Thermopolis Middle School football team, as they lost 34-14 to Greybull.

Corpening said the offensive line was able to move the ball well, but when they got into the “red zone” they struggled to score. Defensively, he said, “we definitely struggled to tackle, so we’ll be working on that a lot this week. We’re trying to hit them way too high and not in the legs.”

He noted Greybull’s quarterback is fairly athletic and when he was able to break containment it was tough. “We had kids literally bouncing off him.”

Quarterback Will Coale had a good game, the coach said, completing a few passes including a touchdown. He also noted Ethan Music ran the ball well and Trenton May had a solid game.

“Our offensive line did a good job, but toward the end of the game we were down so much we had to try and pass, and sometimes that’s rather difficult at the middle school level.”

The team will next compete at Lander on Saturday, Sept. 14, starting at 9 a.m.
