On the Record policy
It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Fire department
Friday, Aug. 30
2:55 p.m. The Thermopolis Volunteer Fire Department responded with three vehicles and eight personnel to a fire at Nostrom Mountain, southwest of town. The fire, started by lightning, was in a difficult area to get to and burned 19.2 acres. Firefighters battled the fire for about nine hours.
Sheriff’s office
Tuesday, Aug. 27
8 p.m. Complaint received about a possible family fight. A male subject involved had left and could not be located. He will be cited with domestic assault and interference with a peace officer.
Wednesday, Aug. 28
8:02 a.m. Report of a vehicle parked at a business for a long period of time. The owner was contacted and was told that he had to check with the business first.
10:15 a.m. Complaint of people camping in the Gebo area. However, they were camping on BLM property, which is allowed, and are expecting to be moving on within a week.
11:49 a.m. Request for a subject to be trespassed from the dump and town hall.
4:18 p.m. Report of suspicious activity on Skelton Road. The complainant advised her livestock had been put on a neighbor’s property but she was able to get them back.
Friday, Aug. 30
2:06 a.m. Report of suspicious activity on Skelton Road. The complainant could see someone in a pasture opening gates. It turned out to be a family member.
1:42 p.m. Request for a assistance from a driver who was high centered. The vehicle was towed.
Saturday, Aug. 31
10:07 a.m. Complaint from Nostrom Road about livestock being on another’s property.
Sunday, Sept. 1
8:01 p.m. Subject reported a dispute with a customer at a business.
Monday, Sept. 2
6:26 p.m. Report of a dispute in East Thermopolis. The matter was deemed to be civil in nature.
Police department
Tuesday, Aug. 27
3:29 p.m. Initial report was of a fist fight, though one subject denied involvement and the other could not be located.
Wednesday, Aug. 28
11:16 a.m. Traffic complaint on a northbound vehicle from the canyon. The suspect vehicle could not be located.
2:25 p.m. Report to document the extent of damage on a rental.
Thursday, Aug. 29
12:50 a.m. A male subject was cited for possession of marijuana and possession of methamphetamine.
6:05 p.m. Report of accident in which a side mirror on a vehicle struck the mirror of another vehicle.
6:07 p.m. A subject broke a water line. It was later found that the line was run over because it was not visible due to overgrowth.
9:38 p.m. Report of a scooter that appeared abandoned. The vehicle was returned to its owner.
Friday, Aug. 30
6:25 a.m. A female subject reported someone around her house. It was determined the subject in question found a dog and was looking for the owner.
7:49 a.m. Report of a lost set of keys.
12:03 p.m. Officer responded to a juvenile issue at a school.
3:11 p.m. Christopher C. Martin was arrested on a warrant.
7:12 p.m. REDDI report, though the suspect vehicle was parked and unattended when it was found.
Saturday, Aug. 31
8:30 p.m. Complaint of subject swimming by the terraces. They were reported to be on the terraces, but they denied the allegations.
Monday, Sept. 2
12:13 p.m. REDDI report, though the driver was found to not be intoxicated.
4:35 p.m. Complaint of people on caller’s property.
4:51 p.m. A subject was found burning weeds outside his house and was told not to.
9:37 p.m. Report of threats being made. The matter is still under investigation.

Circuit court
Joe Hall was bound over to district court for failure to register as a sex offender.
James B. Mischke was found guilty of careless driving and open container, and was sentenced to 20 days in jail with 18 days suspension and 20 months unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $515
Ulises R. Rodriguez was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance, interfering with a peace officer, speeding and not having a valid driver’s license.
Rodriguez was sentenced to one year in jail with 362 days suspension and on year unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $909
Teresa Velasquez was found guilty of second-offense driving under suspension and was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 173 days suspension and six months supervised probation. Fees and fines are $405.
Shane L. Boren was found guilty of driving under the influence and was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 41 days suspension and one year supervised probation. Fees and fines are $1,005.
Edgar Calhoun was found guilty of open container. Fees and fines are $110.
