On the Record policy
It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Fire department
Monday, Aug. 19
11:23 a.m. Page to a fire between Pumpkin Draw and the north fork of Mud Creek. The department responded with 11 personnel, three Type 6 engines, one Type 4 engine and a water tender.
At 2:32 p.m. the firefighters were out of service, as the incident was turned over to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The cause of the fire is accidental, and it was not started by lightning. A Tuesday afternoon estimate showed 60 acres of juniper, grass and sagebrush was burned.
Sheriff’s office
Wednesday, Aug. 14
11:50 a.m. Complaint in regard to a vehicle that was coming into town from Meeteetse. A deputy later caught up with a vehicle, though it did not match the full description given, and cautioned the driver for speeding.
Thursday, Aug. 15
1:29 a.m. Report of a suspicious subject in the Hamilton Dome area. The subject was located sleeping in a vehicle on BLM property where camping is allowed.
9:35 p.m. A deputy assisted a state park ranger with an arrest. Brad R. Gager was arrested for alleged driving under the influence.
Saturday, Aug. 17
1:19 p.m. REDDI report, though the suspect vehicle could not be located.
8:38 p.m. A Deputy observed a vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign and suspected the driver was intoxicated, but he was not.
10:46 p.m. Report of a bag found near the Broadway bridge. Needles were protruding from the bag, which had no known owner.
Monday, Aug. 19
6:59 a.m. Report of a motorcycle rear ending a truck.
4:40 p.m. Search and rescue call for a subject believed to be missing on the river. The subject was located prior to the deputy’s arrival.
5:05 p.m. A subject was cited for speeding.
Police department
Tuesday, Aug. 13
10:02 a.m. Report of a lost set of keys, which had not been claimed.
1:23 p.m. Officer responded to a dispute between subjects over property.
1:42 p.m. Report of a pedestal being backed into.
1:44 p.m. Complaint of a male subject sitting in a vehicle in the state park for a couple hours. The subject said he was watching his grandchildren play while he read books.
2:01 p.m. Subject reported stolen property, but had recovered it himself.
7:26 p.m. A male subject was cited for possession of marijuana.
7:37 p.m. Report of a truck backing into another vehicle.
9:19 p.m. Complaint of a car parked awkwardly at a business. The driver was cited for driving under suspension.
11:32 p.m. Report of yelling turned out to be children at a park talking loudly. They were told to leave the area.
Wednesday, Aug. 14
8:39 p.m. A male subject and female subject were both cited for possession of marijuana.
9:31 p.m. Ex-spouses were trying to talk to each other while in cars, when one vehicle hit the other. The driver was cited for following too closely.
Thursday, Aug. 15
8:51 a.m. A credit card was found, but it had already been disabled through the bank.
1:59 p.m. A stolen vehicle from a couple years ago in another jurisdiction was located.
3:45 p.m. Two vehicles attempting to back out at the same time struck each other.
10:38 p.m. A subject was cited for driving with an expired license.
Friday, Aug. 16
4:09 a.m. A subject was cited for possession of marijuana.
10:59 am. Complaint of an enclosed trailer parked on private property. The driver was contacted and moved it.
1:47 p.m. Report of a vehicle parked in a lot, leaking diesel fuel.
11:52 a.m. Karl Bert David Loos was arrested for alleged possession of methamphetamine.
Saturday, Aug. 17
12:02 a.m. A subject was seen looking into vehicles and other windows, but could not be located.
1:14 a.m. A couple at a business were told to quiet down after a complaint was received.
1:44 p.m. A PTO drive shaft was found in the road and returned to its owner.
5:13 p.m. Report of stolen money and other items.
7:35 p.m. Report of a subject attempting to get into vehicles. The subject could not be located.
8:58 p.m. Following a traffic stop, John C. Kenyon was arrested on a warrant. Mick R. Albright, who attempted to flee from the scene, was stopped with the help of mounted patrol and arrested for alleged driving under the influence and interference with a peace officer.
11:33 p.m. A female subject was cited for careless driving and possession of marijuana.
Sunday, Aug. 18
12:15 a.m. Complaint of an erratic driver. The driver was found to not be under the influence, but was spoken to.
6:35 p.m. Subjects at the dock near the Eighth Street bridge reported rocks had been thrown at their vehicles, smashing out windows, and items from inside the vehicles were taken.
8:24 p.m. Complainant wanted to report a protection order violation.
9:18 p.m. Officers assisted Wyoming Highway Patrol with a REDDI call, though ultimately there was not enough probable cause to make a stop.
10:18 p.m. Report of vehicular damage to a business.
Monday, Aug. 19
9:18 p.m. REDDI report, though there was no probable cause to make a stop.
9:23 p.m. Report of a couple arguing. They were separated for the night.
There were also eight nuisance yard calls this week. Police Chief Julie Mathews and Compliance Officer Ame Longwell remind residents they are responsible for taking care of weeds on their lots, from the alley to the curb.
Circuit court
David K. Lamont Jr. was found guilty of two counts of possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to one year in jail with 362 days suspension and one year supervised probation. Fees and fines are $510.
Jonathan Jones was found guilty of driving under the influence and was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 177 days suspension and one year unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $755.
John D. Laster was found guilty of two counts of use of a controlled substance and was sentenced to six months in jail with 135 days suspension and six months supervised probation. Fees and fines are $510.
