Get ready for county fair fun

“North, South, East and West, Agriculture is the Best!” is the theme for the 2019 Hot Springs County Fair to be held July 29 – Aug. 2 at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds.

Some important dates are coming up quickly for various entries.

Youth Horse Show entries are due in the extension office by 5 p.m. this Friday, July 11.

Entries for 4-H and FFA beef, swine, sheep, goats, poultry, cats and rabbits are due on Friday, July 19 by 5 p.m.

In addition, entries for open class livestock, goats, poultry, cats, dogs and rabbits are also due July 19. Entries for 4-H and FFA building exhibits need to be turned in to the extension office on the same date.

Entry blanks are available at the extension office.

Open class building exhibits enter at the fairbuilding on Monday, July 29 from 6 – 8 p.m. or Tuesday, July 30 from 8 – 11 a.m.

The fairbuilding will be open for public viewing on July 30 starting at 4 p.m.

Briefly, the schedule includes the Pee Wee, 4-H and FFA youth horse show on Saturday, July 27 at 8 a.m.

The dog show will be on July 29 at 6 p.m.

July 30 includes the shooting sports at 1 p.m. and pig wrestling at 6 p.m.

Farm Bureau Day will be July 31 featuring the cat show at 10 a.m., rabbit show at 11 a.m., followed by the poultry show. The goat show will be held at 2 p.m., sheep show at 3 p.m. and things end with Family Fun Night at 7 p.m.

The swine show will be at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1. Later in the evening will be the chili cook off in the multipurpose building at 5 p.m. and the beef show at 6 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 2 will have round robins at 10 a.m., followed by the Parade of Champions at 1 p.m.

Things finish off on Friday with the pre-sale buyer’s dinner at 6 p.m. and the Judges’ Choice Bake Sale and Junior Livestock Auction.
