School board offers contracts

The Hot Springs County School District Board of Trustees met last week with a shortened amount of information due to the upcoming board retreat.

The board approved the Hot Springs County Recreation District budget for the upcoming year and agreed to the use of district-owned vehicles and district facilities for their programs.

The buses and multi-purpose vehicles may be used when it does not conflict with regular school district activities and drivers will be provided through the school district’s transportation director.

The rec district must show proof of liability insurance prior to any trip and the Wyoming Department of Education transportation rates will be charged for all buses and multi-purpose vehicles.

While the facilities of the school may be used by the rec district, they do have to provide their own certified instructors and any use over weekends would incur a charge to the rec district. Any damages and cost of repairs will be charged to the rec district.

The board accepted the resignation of board/superintendent secretary Kelly Andreen. Applications are being taken to fill her position at this time.

Tori Lewis was offered an initial teaching contract for second grade at RWE. Noni Weber will be the language mentor for the year while Drew Brown will continue with zero hour jazz band, Shannon Hill will have a zero hour girls health class and Mary McGilivray will hold a zero hour drama class.

Stephanie Metz will be a math mentor this year and Kylie Bears will be the assistant volleyball coach for the middle school.

The board also approved the use of a superintendent evaluation tool recommended by the Wyoming Department of Education. The department is requiring some type of evaluation tool for superintendents.

Bid packages were received for physical therapy for students and Gottsche Rehabilitation and Therapy Center was granted the contract for the 2019-2020 school year. The services will be billed at $90 per hour, based on an average of 14 hours per week.

In order to participate in Wyoming high school activities, the district must be a member of the WHSAA activities association. The board approved this year’s membership costs of $2,370 with an additional $1,827 for catastrophic liability insurance coverage for students grades five through 12.
