Pulling people into Thermopolis

The annual town clean up was about more than an opportunity to clear junk out of yards, homes and streets. With the influx of tourists that hit Thermopolis about this time, it can be thought of as preparing our home for company. But a clean town is just one aspect of drawing people for a stop or overnight visit.

Hot Springs Travel and Tourism Director Amanda Moeller noted they are working on a rebranding for Thermopolis, changing from the “opolis” campaign in the past few years, and stressing the importance of Thermopolis being a place where people can have a good time at an affordable rate.

Among the other items promoted are the various free tours, particularly at Hot Springs State Park and the bath house but also at some local businesses. There are also some full- and half-day itineraries, Moeller said, and work is being done to make them more public.

Thermopolis-Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Meri Ann Rush said one new event this year is the Hot City Outdoor Day. She added the event provides a great opportunity for people to explore and bring awareness of the outdoor activities here.

The chamber also provides convention bags for events, and those needing them can call 864-3192. Rush hopes it will be a fun summer.

The 2019 edition of the Thermopolis/Hot Springs County visitor guide put out by the Independent Record is also available now, detailing the many activities and services here, and online sites such as thermopolis.com and thermopolischamber.org are regularly kept up to date with event calendars.
