Johnson named 2A Conference Champion
The Bobcat golf team traveled to Sheridan last Friday and Saturday for their 2A Conference Golf Championship, bringing home third place overall behind Kemmerer (1st) and Lusk (2nd).
Ten schools attended the conference meet with Friday having wonderful weather and great playing conditions on the course. Saturday, however, proved to be challenging with rain and 20-30 m.p.h. winds throughout the day.
Freshman Hardy Johnson led the Cats with a two-day score of 145 and was named the 2A Conference Boys Champion as well as all-conference honors for the spring season.
Jeffry Clark scored a 189 for the tourney, coming in in 10th place with all-conference honors as well.
Freshman Will Clark scored a 223, Lee Grimm brought in a 225, and Kyle Roessing scored a 229.
"The boys team played well," coach Joey Johnson said, "they just needed to convert more putts on the first day of the tournament."
Maddie Stam earned an eighth place finish with a two-day total of 216. Stam was also awarded all-conference honors.
"Maddie continues to improve and it sure would be nice to have two more girls to make a run for the girls team championship in the future," Johnson said.
Johnson added he's looking forward to the Fall State 2A tournament in September.
"I think our boys are in a good place," he said. "Everyone is returning for the fall season and we have a really strong set of upcoming freshman boys that will make a great addition to this team.
"Many of the Bobcats will be competing in summer tournaments and we are sending three of our boys to the University of Wyoming Golf Camp in June."
