On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sheriff’s office

Thursday, May 9

9:15 a.m. Report of a vehicle passing others in no passing zones and running people off the road. The vehicle was spotted by a complainant in the canyon, but could not later be located.

7:37 p.m. A civil standby was provided while a female subject served an eviction notice on a tenant.

Friday, May 10

3:01 p.m. A civil standby was provided while a landlord did a final walkthrough of a property.

3:50 p.m. A deputy was requested to the H.O.P.E. Agency to help with questions regarding a protection order.

Saturday, May 11

9:51 a.m. An oil field owner reported a semi had been vandalized. The vehicle was dented and its windows were smashed. The matter is under investigation.

Sunday, May 12

10:05 p.m. Report from a hotel about a guest who was looking into vehicles in the parking lot. The subject was contacted and told to leave the vehicles alone.

Monday, May 13

11:36 a.m. Report of a sex offender failing to register, claiming a new address. The matter is under investigation.

2:56 p.m. Reported theft of a drill from a business. Though the owner has bought the drill back, he wanted to report the theft.

5:28 p.m. A juvenile female reported harassment from a juvenile male, and came to the sheriff’s office to get away from him.

Tuesday, May 7

10:11 a.m. Report of a family fight, though it was only verbal in nature.

6:19 p.m. Complaint of a vandalized vehicle, though there was no information as to who did it.

Wednesday, May 8

10:33 a.m. Complaint of a subject leaving doors open and items out when nobody is around.

Thursday, May 9

1 p.m. Report of a child having issues and being defiant. The officer helped with developing a safety plan.

5:12 p.m. A civil standby was provided while a subject picked up property.

6:56 p.m. Report of a vehicle spinning donuts. The vehicle could not be located.

Friday, May 10

8:10 a.m. Complaint of traffic and other noise at an apartment complex.

9:50 a.m. Report of a male subject slumped over the wheel of a vehicle, with bags outside the vehicle. The subject was actually leaning over the wheel using his phone, and the bags contained trash.

4:37 p.m. Accident in which one vehicle scraped another in a parking lot. The matter is under investigation.

6:28 p.m. A female subject was unsatisfied with the service at a business and wanted her money back. A portion was returned.

Saturday, May 11

10:44 a.m. A parent called, unable to locate a juvenile. It was later discovered the juvenile had gone out looking for missing dogs. The child and the animals were all returned safely.

12:19 p.m. Complaint of a vehicle that appeared abandoned. The owner was located and he moved the vehicle.

Sunday, May 12

10:54 a.m. Report of a lost driver’s license.

1:46 p.m. Reported accident in which a vehicle backed into another.

4:55 p.m. Officer responded to an ongoing neighborhood dispute and told the involved parties to knock it off.

Monday, May 13

9:54 a.m. An officer took a wayward juvenile back to school.

6:21 p.m. Ian R. Williams was arrested for alleged domestic violence.

8:25 p.m. Report of a noise complaint, though the responding officer was unable to locate the source of the noise.

10:15 p.m. Complaint on a household where people were drinking and began yelling. The responding officer told the subjects to go inside and settle down.

11:15 p.m. Complaint of loud music from a vehicle. The driver was told to turn it down and did so.

Hadley Cooper Whitt was born Monday, May 6, 2019, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Justine and Riley Whitt.

Hadley weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces, and was 20 inches long.

Grandparents are Clay and Meredith VanAntwerp and Mark and Pepper Whitt.

Emma Elizabeth Hetzel was born Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Cassie and Quinton Hetzel.

She weighed 7 pounds, 6.1 ounces, and was 19.5 inches long.

Circuit court

Dominic M. Magelky was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance, use of a controlled substance being under 21 driving with blood-alcohol content of .02 percent or more, and was sentenced to a year in jail with 351 days suspension and one year supervised probation. Fees and fines are $1,215.

John B. Welch was found guilty of property destruction under $1,000, leaving the scene of an accident and giving false accident information, and was sentenced to six months in jail with six months suspension and six months supervised probation. Fees and fines are $615.

Robert J. Hunter Jr. was found guilty of driving under the influence, domestic battery, driving under suspension and interfering with emergency calls, and was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 180 days suspension and three years supervised probation. Fees and fines are $1,700.
