Bobcat track team sees pre-qualifiers for state

The tradition seen so far this year of the high school track team setting multiple personal records continued at their triangular with Ten Sleep at Worland on Thursday, April 18. There was also the added bonus of seeing the first athletes pre-qualify for state competition, as Olivia Weyer hit a first place height of 9’3” in the pole vault and the boys sprint medley team of Blake Williams, Jesse Skelton, Wyatt McDermott and Kolby George finished second with a time of 3:49,74.

Both pre-qualifying finishes were also personal records, and the sprint medley team broke the school record for the second time this season.

Coach Aimee Kay noted other tracksters such as Jesse Skelton, Logan Cole, Mariah Brooks and McKenna Bomengen are also coming close to pre-qualifying for state as well.

Kay said the weather for the meet at Worland was great, and the athletes took advantage of it. Ethan Becher was also medically released to rejoin the team after being in the hospital with stomach issues. This week she was hopeful the weather would clear up enough for the team to get more outside practice time.

This week is plenty busy for the track team, with a “throwers only” meet at Worland on April 23, and regular meets at Buffalo on April 25 and at Meeteetse on April 26. Of the throwers meet, Kay said even though we only have a few throwers the schedule allows for it. She explained there are only so many meets schools can compete in before state, and because we started a week later than other schools we had the opportunity to add a meet.

The two regular meets will allow students to focus on one event per meet and still get a good competition in for all their events, preparing for the Bobcat Invite on May 3, and regional and state competition in the weeks following.
